How good are you at matching the “After” shots with the “Before” shots? Rate yourself out of 9.
Before the Reno
After the Reno
1: G. This plain house and neglected, unused yard were transformed with French doors opening out on to a deck screened for privacy from the neighbours. The result: The perfect place to relax or entertain. These kinds of renovations are a great return on investment because they add so much value and lifestyle to your home – much more than they cost!
2: D. Here, a nasty, unworkable kitchen was replaced an elegant yet highly functional modern kitchen and opened up to the outdoor living area (see 1:G above – yep, it’s the same house).
3: B. This was a relatively easy match, but look at the difference that a new storey, cladding and porch have made! It looks like a new home, but the owners have saved thousands by retaining and enhancing the best parts of the original house. If you’re looking for more space in your house, talk to us about building up, out or down.
4: A. You may have had more trouble guessing this match. Before, the basement was only used for storage, a real waste of space. The homeowners decided to turn it into the perfect place for unwinding or entertaining, with beautiful results.
5: C. Another easy one. We especially like the way this small bathroom has been made to seem more spacious and open by the use of a “wet area” shower that makes access easier and gives you more room. And we love the earthy tile and mirror colours.
6: F. Instead of making visitors play “find the front door”, this home renovation has made a feature of the entrance, making it much more inviting and improving the home’s street appeal.
7: I. We’re not sure why there were windows in the “Before” shot – they seemed to look into a dark room. But these were very sensibly covered over and new French doors installed leading out to a sunny deck in the “After” shot.
8: E. The addition of a big window and fresh modern colours to bring more light in – and the removal of the old dark furniture – has revitalised this living room.
9: H. From a cramped, dank and dated bathroom to a haven of freshness and light. White paint and mirrors make this small space bigger and wall art, flowers and the antique chair add character to what otherwise may have seemed a somewhat sterile environment.
