Because so many New Zealand homes are perched on hillsides, they tend to have loads of space underneath. Many of these spaces are just wind tunnels, spider farms or places to store junk. But there’s a growing movement to convert what were once wasted spaces into family rooms, workshops or man caves like this.
Then again, you could always convert it into a separate apartment for your children, granny or guests.
What better and safer place than a basement playroom to keep the children out of your hair or entertain their friends while you’re busy upstairs in the main part of the house?
Alternatively, a basement sitting room and home theatre could be the perfect place to entertain yourself and your friends...
… or keep your prized wine collection…
… or work on your toys.
Whatever you want to do with your basement, the key to successfully renovating it is to pay particular attention to waterproofing, insulation, ventilation and soundproofing as well as design – factors in which we at Pzazz Building are masters.
