Avoiding renovation horrors

How to avoid the horrors
of ‘bait-pricing’ when
you renovate

If you believe the headlines, ‘blowouts’ in home building and renovation costs are an epidemic in New Zealand – but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Don't get caught!

One of the reasons for these blowouts is ‘bait pricing’ – the decidedly dodgy practice by some builders of offering unrealistically low estimates in order to win renovation work. Then, once the projects begin, these builders invariably start making claims for ‘unforeseen issues’ and extras which weren’t included in the estimate.

All of which can lead to unnecessary cost and stress.

Too many Kiwi homeowners fall for this tactic, largely because they don’t understand that an estimate is not a quote or fixed price and that there is no guarantee that the final cost will be anywhere near the original price.
Fortunately, there are 3 simple ways to protect yourself from this:
  1. Insist on a written proposal containing a plan and scope of works – everything you will get and any exclusions
  2. Make sure the proposal is for a fixed price
  3. Ask for a written guarantee that includes a guarantee of fixed price
At Pzazz Building, it is our policy for our local affiliates to offer their clients all of the above.

And we take your protection even further with:

  1. A written proposal containing not just a detailed plan and full scope of works, but also a schedule showing when each stage of the project will be completed and the option of a 3D Design Concept so you can see exactly what you’ll get before the project even begins
  2. A fixed price
  3. Our exclusive written 10-Point Peace of Mind Guarantee which includes guarantees of service, quality and completion date as well as price

Don’t settle for less.

It all starts with a free In-home Consultation where you will have the opportunity to discuss your ideas and needs with your local Pzazz Building renovation expert. There’s no cost or obligation so don’t hesitate to contact us now.
