Wellington second level extension

Case study: Managing the steep slope in a Wellington home extension

Home renovations encompassing building UP - keeping the footprint of your home the same as it was yet providing twice the living space and giving the much needed indoor/outdoor flow.

Wellington hillside home extension

Molly and Arran knew they needed more space for their growing family and like most people started searching the real estate pages. But an inability to find something that ticked enough of their must have boxes and a love of their current location led them to consider whether a renovation was possible to their 1960’s two level property.

A search via Google gave them some names of people to talk to and after the disappointment of the first two contacts they were impressed with Rudy’s knowledge and his vow to make their dream come true. Molly and Arran were initially looking at pushing out to create the extra space they craved but over a cup of tea and leisurely conversation Rudy suggested going up to take advantage of the site.

From there Rudy brought to the table his 35 years of residential building expertise and design ideas to formulate a way forward. A budget was agreed on and then with his Pzazz Building regular designer they firstly developed a couple of concept drawings and then once the clients were happy full working drawings were given the go ahead. This would see an additional storey added to the existing two storey house to provide a new front entry and an expansive kitchen/dining/living space opening onto a new deck to take advantage of the stunning harbour views and the afternoon sunshine.

A new stairway was built down to the now middle level and this level was reconfigured and refurbished to provide a new master bedroom with ensuite plus a new main bathroom, office and children’s bedroom.

Future plans include a makeover for the lower level and landscaping. To top all this off discussions are soon to start on a new “tree house” on the site for Molly’s USA based parents who just love the area.
