Steep building site

Rudy can build anything, anywhere

Building a new home in Wellington can have its challenges, especially when you just about need abseiling gear just to reach the building site. But Rudy van Vlerken and his team from Pzazz Building Wellington North are always up for a challenge, as this incredible gallery shows.

The image above is a screenshot from the 3D video of a new home that the owners' parents were able to view before construction even began. As you'll see from the full video at the bottom of this page, 3D design is a great way to see what you're getting before you get it – but it gives no clue as to the fun Rudy (pictured at left) was about to have in building it on the steepest property we've ever seen!

Building site of Wellington new home
We’ve seen steeper slopes – in the Southern Alps – but even this shot of the building site before construction started doesn't give a full indication of how precipitous this section really is. In fact, this shot shows the most level part of the section – the part where the owners, who’d used Rudy before to renovate the house you see in front, wanted to build a smaller home for their parents.

But wait, there's more!
Earthworks on Wellington new home site
Didn’t believe us, did you? This shot gives you a better idea of how precipitous this slope is. Trees had to be trimmed and a path built for access, but the earthmover you see below had to be craned into position from the street above. Here the digger driver is levelling off the building site – conscious of the sheer drop into the gully below him.
The poles are lowered for the new home
You can see here how many poles were needed, both to support the new home and construct retaining walls to stop everything from slipping into the deep gully down below. The poles had to be lowered with care to avoid damaging Rudy’s fine workmanship on the main house.
The Edge Wall Lamp
There was no way anyone was going to get a concrete truck down there, so a sluice had to be constructed and the cement poured down from the street above. You can see the new house taking shape as the framing goes up.
Roof goes on the new home
Getting the roof on is always a momentous milestone but we reckon Rudy and his team had more reason to celebrate at the obligatory “roof shout” than most.
And there’s the completed house. To see what it looks like, inside as well as out, check out the 3D video below.

At Pzazz Building, we go where other builders fear to tread! Talk to your local Pzazz Building owner about your new home or out-building, whether your section is steeply sloped or not. And to experience your new home before we even begin to create it, we invite you to take advantage of our exclusive 3D Design and Video service.
