5 ways to make this the best summer ever with a deck, patio or pergola

If you're like us, summer's your favourite time of year and you love nothing better than a good old backyard BBQ with friends or sipping a cold one in your favourite deckchair after work.

But this summer, how about enhancing your lifestyle, impressing your friends and adding value to your home with a new or extended deck or patio? And perhaps a pergola or other form of shelter to make outdoor living more comfortable?

Here are some ideas we like.

5 ways to make this the best summer ever with an outdoor room

The only problem with a deck or patio is that in New Zealand's variable climate, it's only usable for part of the year and even in the summer, wind and rain may drive you indoors.

That's why more and more Kiwi homeowners are turning to outdoor rooms.  The beauty of outdoor rooms is that they are not only versatile and functional at almost any time of the year, but they can be designed to become a natural extension of your home, rather than an add-on or after-thought.

5 ways to make this the best summer ever with an outdoor structure

The term 'outdoor structure' sounds uninspiring, but it actually applies to an enormous range of possibilities. There are spas, pools, entertainment and BBQ areas, gazebos - and all manner of structures designed to optimise your outdoor living.

Another option is to create more functional living or working space with a tiny home, minor dwelling, workshop, studio, granny flat or playhouse.

Let us design and build your outdoor living area

Gone are the days when a deck was just some pavers or a small bland section of timber decking. With the growth of informal el fresco dining, open plan living, an array of BBQ's and fabulous outdoor cooking apparatus today's modern deck / outdoor living space must flow to create a living environment that everyone will love.

Like any successful renovation project, the 80/20 rule applies - that is 80% planning and 20% doing. So the place to start is a indoor/outdoor design that meets the needs of your family, both today and for the duration of your stay. That could mean intimate private spaces or wide open spaces to host large groups.

Which option is right for you?

There are many deck design options and linking the right design to your house plans is a critical component. And of course not all decks are ground floor connected with upper level decks to take advantage of different views plus open up the spaces they are connected to.

Our team of talented designers, project managers and qualified builders backed up by world class systems ensure that you benefit by having the project completed in the minimum of time to the maximum standard.

Decks and outdoor living areas designed to inspire

Outdoor living has come a long way since the days of quarter-acre sections in New Zealand. Homes that once had small windows facing the wrong way for the sun are now being opened up with bifolding glass doors leading onto expansive decks or patios. And firepits, patio heaters, protective screens and outdoor rooms have made outdoor living an all-year-round lifestyle choice.
