Bathrooms back in black

Bathrooms: Back in black

Black bathrooms? We’ve all grown so used to bathrooms in pale and insipid colours that the concept of a black bathroom goes against the grain. But these bathrooms, part of a trend to more adventurous home renovation and decoration, will change your mind.

The great thing about using black in a bathroom is that you can contrast all those white bathroom fixtures against it in striking style. Those woodgrain shelves look good against it, too, and we like the back lighting around the mirror.
This isn't a black bathroom but we wanted to show you how good black cabinets look in a paler-coloured bathroom. There's nothing insipid about this bathroom.
Back to black, and here's another clever use of contrast and lighting.
If you're not totally convinced that you want a mostly black bathroom you can use different shades of grey together with timber and still achieve a nice contrasting effect. We love the use of texture in the feature wall to add greater interest and depth to the room.
The pale earthy colours of these vases create a sculptural effect against the black wall of this bathroom and the pale wooden vanity top and artful placement of the lighting create a wonderful shadowy effect.

This bathroom isn't black either but it demonstrates that you needn't be afraid to use darker hues and non-traditional colours. In fact, almost anything goes.
