This 1970s-style ranch house suffered from limited natural light and an ugly shrub plonked right in the middle of the front yard. This renovated house in North Sydney doesn’t look hugely different from the original bought by 29-year-old carpenter, Craig Archer, and his wife Sarah in May 2013 for $660,000. But when you take a closer look at their extensive renovations on both the interior and exterior of the property, you can see why the house sold for a princely $1.7 million two years later.

Let’s start with the kitchen and living area. As you can see from the ‘before’ inset, the original kitchen was just a tad dated. Craig’s renovation raised the ceiling, updated the kitchen and made the most of the gorgeous timber floor.
