10 amazing dining room tables

12 of the most amazing dining tables you've ever seen

As our name implies, we love to put a little pzazz into people’s homes. But that takes more than a brilliant renovation, it takes furniture to match. Here are a dozen inspirations for adding boldness as well as classiness to your dining room.

Ribbon dining table

The Intuition Dining Table by Koket

US-based Koket is one of our favourite furniture makers because of the innovativeness and moodiness of their creations. The two tone metal ribbon of the Intuition dining table is supposed to “evoke the mysterious and divine feminine instinct. Carefree and unexpected swirls are guided by emotions and desires. The two-tone metal base is topped with a perfect glass circle top. Without this, there is nothing.”

Burlwood Dining Table

Burlwood Dining Table by Mastercraft

We noticed this piece for sale on the delightfully-named Chairish website (“Where design lovers buy and sell”) and immediately fell in love with the clever solid timber leg design.

Boston dining table

Boston by Timothy Oulton

We like Timothy Oulton because, well, he’s Timothy Oulton. The smooth aluminium Aero top of the Boston gives the table a modern twist, but it also comes with table tops in white or black marble or granite. We’re not sure about the crazy gym-horse bench seats, though.

This table is available in New Zealand from Dawson and Co.

Riviera Extension Table

Riviera Extension Table by Sorenmobler

The solid rimu gives this table away as a New Zealand-made piece. Sorenmobler is a family business that has been manufacturing solid timber furniture in New Zealand for over 30 years, and they specialise in the use of sustainable rimu, totara and matai timber.

Zen Dining Suite

Zen Dining Suite by BOS Design

Another cool New Zealand designed and made suite. We like the chair fabric (which unfortunately has recently been discontinued), the sculpted gap down the middle of the table, and the blocked legs which allow for plenty of leg room. Available from Danske Mobler.

Enchanted Dining Table

Enchanted by Koket

Here’s another classic from Koket capturing the essence of an enchanted forest with its antique gilded branch-like structure.

Teak Dining Table

Teak Dining Table in Waiatarua Home

This table doesn’t need a branch-like support structure because there’s already an enchanted forest right outside. The table-and-bench set may not look too different from those found in your typical New Zealand roadside rest area, but the point we’re making is that your setting, colours and lighting are also vital to creating an amazing dining environment.

Retro mid-century teak round dining table

Retro mid-century teak round dining table

This table-and-chairs set by an unknown maker proves that you don’t need to buy new to create the ideal dining environment. It also shows how a feature such as that amazing light fixture can add pzazz to an otherwise fairly bland environment.
Another Ribbon Table by Koket

Ribbon Table by Koket

We were really “wrapped” when we came across this intriguing table (geddit?). The twists and turns of the base are delicately adorned in gleaming metal leaf, mimicking the sheen of a girl’s hair ribbon.
The Big dining table

The Big dining table by Bonaldo

This reminds me of the time I put the legs on the wrong way on an IKEA table I once tried to assemble, but it is, in fact, an Italian-made table designed by Alain Gilles. With its splayed painted metal legs and a solid top, it’s available in New Zealand from Bradfords Furniture.

The Wishbone Dining Table

The Wishbone Dining Table by Square Roots

We like the simplicity of this table and the elegant wishbone design of the cast-iron legs. The philosophy behind Square Roots is furniture designed with clean lines and a natural, organic spirit. Available from Hunter Furniture.

Darfield Beech Dining Table

Darfield Beech Dining Table by Woodwrights

This table shows that New Zealand craftspeople make superb traditional furniture as well as the modern designs. It’s made by Woodwrights of Motueka from Southland Maple Beech, which is sustainably harvested and certified.
