Going up: Adding an attic room or another level

If your home has under-used space up inside the loft, one of the most cost-effective ways to gain more space and increase the value of your home can be turning the space into an attic room. Think of all the uses - a bedroom, home office, sewing room - the sky's the limit!

The alternative if you don't have enough space is to raise the roof - literally, by increasing the height of your roof, or by adding a whole new level to your home. The two reasons people usually consider going up is either because your section size does not allow spreading out as an option and/or that by going up you get to take advantage of some great views.
