spreading out:
extending your space
- Bigger living room?
- Creating space for a teenager?
- Elderly relative moving in?
- Hosting Airbnb guests?
One of the first things to consider is whether your section can accommodate the type of home extension you have in mind. This includes checking site coverage ratios, boundary setbacks, and local council requirements, as well as making sure you still have outdoor space that suits your lifestyle. Whether you’re planning a bedroom addition, expanding your living area, or adding a minor dwelling-style setup, getting the balance right between indoor and outdoor space is key.
Extending key living areas or adding extra bedrooms is one of the most effective ways to improve both day-to-day comfort and long-term property value.

home extension FAQs
building under:
developing your basement
In hilly areas such as Wellington, many of our homes have unused space underneath to accommodate their sloping sections. Others have a garage and storage space for the mower - but not much else.
Developed land in areas like Auckland and Wellington become more and more at a premium. Kiwi homeowners are making more of that under-utilised, under-house space. This can be achieved by developing the existing space, or jacking up the house to make room for a full new level underneath. We can provide advice on all types of basement renovations anywhere in New Zealand.
If you're thinking about adding a family room, granny flat, office, studio, home theatre or any other type of basement development to your home, contact the local Pzazz Building team today to find out what's possible at a free
in-home consultation.

going up:
adding an attic room or new level
If your home has under-used space up inside the loft, one of the most cost-effective ways to gain more space and increase the value of your home can be turning the space into an attic room. Think of all the uses - a bedroom, home office, sewing room - the sky's the limit! Attic renovations can be an extremely cost effective solution to create that additional space without changing the buildings overall dimensions.
The alternative if you don't have enough space is to raise the roof - literally - by increasing the height of your roof, or by adding a whole new level to your home. The two reasons people usually consider going up is either because your section size does not allow spreading out as an option and/or that by going up you get to take advantage of some great views.
